Lionheart Professional Organizing Solutions
* CapemayX.com caught up with Lionheart owner Alix Longfellow. She had just completed a long workday and was settling in on her apartment deck over looking the harbor with a glass of iced tea, and her cat Stryder poking his nose in the screen door. You really get a feel for Alix's personality and style by learning about her world travels, adventures and living philosophy. She's really good at organizing (she helped capemayX with many of our work flow systems), and loves being a professional organizer. We would go as far as to say she's the best professional organizer in Cape May and South Jersey. You definitely want her on your side when there's too much to juggle. CapemayX has noticed that since we completed this interview, the world or Professional Organizers is getting major media coverage with leading stories on Oprah, Larry King and ET.
The Lionheart Story: Alix Longfellow runs one of the only Professional Organizing companies in the area. Lionheart was born from her passion for organizing and desire to show others how to improve their lives using organizing strategies.
Some unique travel experiences click We're a Cape May web-site, so what's with the great, exotic photos from the other side of the world? Travel is one of the benefits of my being a professional organizer. I get to help people de-clutter & de-stress their lives enabling them to create the lives they want to live while allowing me to do the same. When you are clear and organized it’s easier to focus on areas that may excite you. As for me, I love to travel — Dubai, New Zealand, and just this past year Bahrain — a little island off of the coast of Saudi Arabia — are just a few of the places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit.
Bahrain, isn’t that where Michael Jackson’s been hiding out?
Yes. He’s been staying with one of the Sheiks.
What’s one of your more interesting travel experiences?
I was in Dubai helping a company that specialized in selling fine jewelry to the Ritz Carlton and other luxury hotels. We did a photo shoot at a secluded resort in the Arabian Desert. The rooms were actually villas set in the middle of an animal preserve, inhabited by exotic animals living in their natural habitat. Literally at our doorstep were Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelles, Falcon’s, and camels, of course. I was so fortunate to experience this place; the rooms are $3000 a night! Absolutely amazing.
What’s an example of the fun stuff you do while traveling?
In New Zealand I parachuted from 12,000 feet. Don’t know what came over me. I guess since the guys I was traveling decided to do it, in a moment of temporary insanity I went along. We were in Queenstown and parachuted over the Remarkables Mountain range. There was a beautiful crystal clear lake, it was…
Remarkable?
I was going to say spectacular, but yes it was remarkable too.
Were you nervous?
Definitely. It probably didn’t help that the outfit we were jumping with had a what they called a “little incident” two weeks earlier -- the plane was running out of fuel because they had forgotten to fill up and the instructors made them jump “a little bit early” at 9,000 feet because they had to get the plane down before it ran out of fuel!!! Needless to say I only found this out after our plane left the tarmac.
Really?
Safe and sound | click It was funny in hindsight but it might have added to the queasy feeling I had when I got back on the ground. The free fall was fun, but when the chute opened it took a while to get down and I started to not feel at all well thinking about what I had just done. You might notice that I look a little “green” in the picture.
With so much travel why choose to live Cape May?
My family has been coming here since I was little -- I’ve always loved the area. The people are great and I like the seasonal nature of the town. I live overlooking a marina and enjoy seeing all the activity from my deck. We get some large yachts coming in especially in the spring & fall and they are fun to see.
What about Lionheart, do you work primarily in Cape May County?
I try to work in Cape May as much as possible but have clients in New York, Philadelphia, and I take the ferry once a week to work in Lewes, Delaware.
Does the ferry make you seasick?
Very funny! No, but I will say that given my penchant for multi-tasking I had intended to use the crossings to catch up on work on my laptop but found that wasn’t such a good idea! So now I just enjoy the scenery.
Why does Cape May County need a professional organizer?
It’s a busy world: so much clutter, noise, and distractions. Our lives are flooded with more technology, information, and stuff every day. It's not just a big city problem. Cape May's unique seasonal-tourist based economy, with its “feast or famine” nature, is driven by hard working business owners who benefit from streamlining their systems and being organized.
What type of organizing do you do?
Residential and business. From setting up filing systems, to de-cluttering a room, to creating full on systems to help improve work-flow efficiency. Many clients have found that they end up with “extra” hours in a day by simply tweaking a few things. One of my clients is a mother with three children under the age of 6 and has a full time job—you can just imagine how important a few extra hours a day is to her.
Why the name Lionheart?
To me it symbolizes the courage to take action. It seems that it was meant to be because I had just decided on the name when a friend of mine sent me the New Yorker image of a lion sitting in an inbox. Also, I am a Leo so the name has special meaning for me.
What’s your favorite Cape May thing you’d recommend to a visitor? Walking on the beach down near the water on a beautiful, clear day.
Name one recommendation for someone who's considering hiring a professional organizer? Do something, today...right now. You'll be surprised how great it feels to start moving towards a solution rather than just think about it.
