I read about Vosges Chocolate a few months back. The unusual ingredient combos sounded so inappropriate to a typical chocolate experience, I vowed to try some if given the chance. So when I heard the bars were available in Cape May at the stylishly unique (and pricey) environs store in the Congress Hall shops, I headed over for a taste test.
The flavor selections are unusual, to say the least. The Red Fire Bar features ancho and chipotle chilli peppers, ceylon and cinnamon with dark chocolate. The Naga Bar combines milk chocolate, curry powder, and coconut flakes. And my choice, the Black Pearl, mixes dark chocolate with ginger, wasabi, and black sesame seeds. Wasabi? A strange as it sounds, the taste was nothing short of amazing. But you really have to taste for yourself to get that this is a top notch and completely appropriate palate experience. A final thought: even though I pumped 50 new fat grams into my body for this story, shopper Mary who helped with the taste test, pointed out the antioxidant benefits of consuming high quality dark chocolate. You're right Mary, thanks — I feel better already! Even at $8 a bar, every chocolate lover should give Vosges bars a try at least once. Environs is on the first floor of the Congress Hall shops.
