Cape May Stage: Historic Past, Exciting Future

cape mays tage logo.jpg Extra note: I just re-watched Jim Moffatt's video interview today, and the one line that really struck me is where he says "A night at the Cape May stage is really coming to see magic. The magic of the arts, the magic of the theater coming live." If that line boosts your mojo, then you'll certainly enjoy his full interview, and you definitely enjoy a live show.

The Cape May Stage is undergoing a major transformation that pays full respect to a long and colorful history, while forging ahead to a future that promises one of the best regional theater experiences anywhere.

CapemayX.com wanted to learn more, so we tracked down Jim Moffatt who heads Project Encore, the 1.2 million dollar reconstruction effort, and interviewed Jim in front of the Stage. He described what the historic renovation means to Cape May, it's loyal theater goers, and the Stage itself (click video clip below).

Be sure to check out the Cape May Stage website for full details on shows this summer, special events, and how to purchase tickets. Cape May stage is a hidden jewel that speaks to the soul of what Cape May offers visitors and locals alike. It's also easy to miss (unless of course you already know about it.) With this short interview, more people should be excited about planning a night at the theater to enjoy a truly unique entertainment experience.

Jim Moffatt added some additional content. "Two years ago the old dilapidated Church/Welcome Center/Theatre building at Bank & Lafayette Streets was an eye-sore on our town's beautiful landscape. Today, thanks to some dedicated friends of Cape May Stage and many generous donors in the Cape May community, that 1853 historic structure is being restored to its original glory. And in the next year, the interior of the building will be renovated to accommodate a state-of-the-art professional theatre space.

This $1.2 million project will allow the Equity Theatre company to provide their audiences with a far greater theatre experience, including stadium seating and enhanced theatrical sound and lighting mediums. Historic preservationists are already in awe of the remarkable transformation of this architectural gem right in the heart of Cape May. While Project Encore is still in progress (final stages), they currently have a full summer schedule that every one should check out.

Finaly, as noted television, movie and Broadway star (and local resident) Robert Prosky noted, 'It's the perfect marriage of the old and the new: the renovation of the church, a key building in this National Landmark City, into a first-class performance facility.'"
