Wed, December 27 Spectacular Cape May Sky | click
Regarding last Saturday's spectacular sunset (post below), as it turns out, capemayX reader and Congress Hall guest Bradley Fry took photos (shown to the right) from his suite. Thanks Bradley, we appreciate the contribution. The sky in the vertical photo looks close to how I remember it when I drove down to the Cove although I think I arrived later where even more deep blue top sky had compressed the orange horizon. As the night sky slid into place, the silver moon shown in the top left, cast a more visual silvery spell over the landscape.

From a Congress Hall balcony suite
This balcony shot is interesting in that the yellow and red Congress Hall column lights provide a Tequlia sunrise palette that mimicks the sky's color spectrum. And aside from a simply incredible visual, you never see this perspective in Cape May sunset photos — shot from a Congress Hall suite, and capturing the Cape May Point lighthouse in the distance.Click on the the image thumbnails at right to see larger versions.
Bradley Fry, the photographer, provided the following narrative about how he captured these Cape May photos. It'a amazing how many people come to Cape May to find the exact beauty that they saw that night.
My wife Maura and I arrived in Cape May on December 20th knowing that not the best weather was ahead of us in the next few days. This was our third year coming to Cape May in December and knowing what Cape May has to offer at Christmas, we were happy none the less. Friday night had a strong rain storm come through. We were very happy the next morning when we ventured out to the beach and saw the storm had left a large amount of fully intact shells. This was great, but what was to come in the evening was even better. We had gone shopping in the afternoon and for some reason I ran up to our room at Congress Hall when we got back. Our room had an excellent view of the majority of the beach as well as the top half of the lighthouse.
When I got up there, I realized it was going to be a great sunset. I quickly went into a frenzy. Due to taking so many pictures in the preceeding days (and also being super lazy) my camera battery was running low power. I gave it a couple minute charge (which felt like a lifetime) and ran downstairs to get Maura and head to the beach. I think by this time she was a little sick of me taking pictures so while I snapped some shots, she picked up more shells. The Sunset was amazing. Wonderful colors, clear sky. All conditions were perfect. The only drawback was that once the sun went down, we retreated back to our room to get ready for dinner. When I got back and looked out the window, I realized the sky was even better once the sun went down. I was able to snap the shot with the orange horizon that fades up to the blue sky and moon. Also, the banner image of the orange sky lighthouse.
Overall it was an amazing sunset/evening and it made our stay in Cape May even better. I had seen shots of these wonderful skys in various galleries around Cape May that were too good to be true and now I've got to experience it in person.
